SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH OF ALUMNI ADMISSIONS
LIAISON VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IN SOCAL & PACIFIC NORTHWEST!

Southern California Alumni gathered to learn more about the launch of the AALV program and to offer their support. Director of Admissions, Rev. Ellen Baxter and Recruitment Ambassador Rev. Rich Poole, center.

San Francisco Theological Seminary was pleased to host two special events to launch the Alumni-Admissions Liaison Volunteer (AALV) program: a hands-on way for alumni to help SFTS by working together to connect with potential students.

One event took place on the waterfront in Portland, Oregon with Alumni Recruitment Ambassador, Rev. Linda Stewart-Kalen (MDiv ’97) and the other in Pasadena, California with Alumni Recruitment Ambassador Rev. Rich Poole (MDiv ’06). Both events were attended by SFTS Vice President for Enrollment Management & Interim Director of Alumni Relations, Dr. Dave Behrs, and SFTS Director of Admissions, Rev. Ellen Baxter (MDiv ’06).

In Portland, 29 attendees bringing over seven decades of SFTS experience were enthusiastic about a desire to welcome, interview, and refer students for degree and certificate programs.  A stunning online campus tour and additional communications resources were applauded.  The day offered a great opportunity to build our regional network in the Pacific Northwest.

In Southern California, an impressive group of 19 alumni met at Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion restaurant in Pasadena. This was the first opportunity for the SoCal alums to learn about the exciting new AALV program and they, too, were eager to get involved. Those in attendance included graduates from both the northern and formerly southern campuses, Reverends (and a few spouses) from all walks of life: Ken Baker who is presently the Executive Presbyter of San Fernando Presbytery, John Harris is the stated clerk of Santa Barbara Presbytery, additionally, Chuck Robertson, who worked so hard to coordinate the Selma anniversary, was present.

Alumni Ambassadors are important to SFTS’ admissions recruitment efforts as they meet individually with potential applicants, staff college/seminary fairs, and host local receptions for admitted and entering seminary students. AALV members not only share their experiences and information about SFTS, but also help to personalize the admissions process for seminary candidates each year. SFTS AALV members are a group of proud alumni who serve as enthusiastic ambassadors to prospective seminary students and families in all 50 states and across the globe.

Additional AALV events are planned here in the Bay Area, Chicago, and across the country this year. Look for an invitation when we come to your town! The Enrollment Management team is also planning an “Alum-Recruiter Training Weekend” on-campus this summer. Stay tuned for details!
