Self Introduction

Journey of my Faith.

I was born in Seoul in 1979. I had been well raised in the love of my grandparents and warm caring from my parents. My father ran a small business and my mother took care of the house. They always emphasized the importance of faith in my life and encouraged me to keep up the church activities. They tried to have a family worship service every day. They taught me to put my life's value in the Christianity. I had a happy childhood. However when I was 6th grade, my father's business faced critical crisis, so my family had to get through the financial difficulties together. Though it was severe to my family, wrong belief which we just wanted financial blessing had changed totally to finding the will of God and trying to actualize it within the crisis.

God helped me to enter Seoul National University within the difficulties. But I couldn't be all happy at that moment because I had to find out the way to get the first tuition for university. From that time I tried to make money for university with teaching at the private institutes and tutoring day and night. Meanwhile my mother realized her calling from God to ministry. She entered the Full Gospel Seminary. After the graduation she started church in Incheon, Korea.

I majored in Agricultural Economics. In the morning I took classes in school and in the evening taught students in private institutions. When I was in the junior class, I realized calling from God. Therefore I decided changed my life path to study Theology. My parents were on my side and they emboldened me to follow my faith and prayed for me. I graduated Seoul National University on August, 2003 and got B.A Economics. And I joined the army as a KATUSA soldier on January, 2004. It was a good chance to experience different culture and languages.

I served my 2 years mandatory duty as a 2nd ID, USA Army in Korea, chaplain's Assistant helping and cooperating with 3 American Chaplains. My duty was preparing the Sunday worship service with Chaplain and serving the chapel and making a good relationship with all soldiers and counseling them and praying for them. Additionally I helped chaplain's planning the community events and executed them. I assisted bible study which was leading in English for all soldiers. And I started KATUSA bible study group separately also every week. I think it was all God's helping to start the KATUSA bible study as a low ranker. I'm very pleased with some friends who participated in the bible study group first time in their life and now attending church every week with firm faith.
I transferred to Presbyterian college and Theological Seminary(PCTS) in Korea after I was discharged from military service on January, 2006. For two years in PCTS I studied hard as I could. It was a good chance to me for meeting many good fellows and teachers in faith. I graduated in 2 years with the grace of God in 2008. Honorably I got the high grades prize from the mayor of a Gwangjin borough, even though I started to study Theology relatively late than usual.

I remember the time I went to church for the first time in my life. I was six years old, I went to the church with my friend. He was pastor's kid in Young-Bok Church. I went to that church for several years. When I entered the elementary school, my family attended to Yui-do Full Gospel Church. I have been raised in church. I joined the praise band after I entered university. The band led the main service for dedicated to young adults. I had served the team for three years. My life was not that easy to manage the studying and working and praising. However that was great opportunity to experience God more deeply and fully. After 3 years I realized that I needed something else. I followed my parents' advice to move to Onnuri church. I serve as a member of choir of the Joshua young adult group. I met important people in my life at that time and also I experienced new dimension of faith. One of my friend introduced Rev. Eun-Kyu Hah who led small community in Sinchon, Korea. I start to serve the community as a Pastor. The community has had service every Sunday at a Cafe in Sinchon, Korea. For this community has a vision to the young adults and students. Professor of PCTS OT, Donghyun Park also served in this community.

The uncertain dream for studying Theology abroad was came true in 2008, with entering SFTS. Now second semester is almost over. In September I started a new semester as a middler. The study was not easy but challenging. I could develop myself during three semesters. Also it was a good chance to know and experience God more deeply. I am thankful for the grace of God which led me here to study.

Before I came to America, I was introduced to ichurch by a friend of mine who studied in SFTS. Since I came to San Francisco on Aug, 2008, I had served as a English Ministry and Youth Pastor in ichurch in Palo Alto. I lead worship songs with my guitar and keyboard and preach. And I also take the responsibility of EM and Youth bible study. There is one more Pastor in EM who involved EM and preaches. So we took preaching in turns.

Humbly I pray God's will be done in my life and seminary and church and in San Francisco.

Dongwoo Lee.
