18 students from six seminaries have enrolled in GA class

Reviving a tradition begun 25 years ago by former SFTS vice-president Jack Rogers, SFTS is co-sponsoring a for-credit General Assembly class – “Presbyterianism: Principles and Practices” – at this year’s 222nd General Assembly in Portland, Oregon. SFTS is joined as co-sponsor by Austin and Louisville seminaries.

Eighteen students from six PC(USA) seminaries have enrolled in the class: SFTS, Louisville, Austin, Columbia, Union, and Pittsburgh. Lead faculty are Cliff Kirkpatrick of Louisville Seminary and Paul J. Hooker of Austin Seminary. Jerry Van Marter of SFTS is course administrator. SFTS students Jessica Lopez and Lora East are enrolled in the class.

Students will earn three academic credits by choosing a committee or issue and tracking it throughout the seven-day General Assembly and then writing a paper on what they have learned about how the PC(USA) operates and why. The General Assembly runs June 18-25 at the Portland Convention Center.
