Welcome to SFTS
"We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now… We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. "
~ Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, New York City's Riverside Church, April 4, 1967

As we begin a new chapter in the 150-year history of SFTS these words deliver a piercing challenge that resonates throughout our SFTS community during an exciting period of challenge and change. This year the SFTS Advancement theme - Chapter 1: Designing A Mosaic for Ministry - carries a resounding message accompanied by a warm invitation to support the mission of the seminary.

There are myriad avenues and opportunities to share in an SFTS experience with its students, faculty, staff, and partners. And, we are about building an energized, well-connected, outward-looking institution whose faculty and students deliver on our SFTS commitment to forward-looking, innovative ministry. Rigorous theological education, spiritual formation, and a thoughtful, caring resolve that builds a vibrant Church and new worshipping communities are at the very core of our mission.

Visually, we draw our inspiration for the theme of the Chapter 1 initiative from a commanding mosaic, 34 feet in length, created by 2013 M.Div. alumnus Charles Wei in Holy Grounds. We hope you will watch the video below in which Wei explains the mosaic and his spiritual journey in creating it. Please support our students as they go forward in their studies and lives of service by giving generously to the seminary's Chapter 1 Campaign. Blessings and Peace,

Jack Kirkman
Vice President for Advancement
