SFTS Programs & Partners

Coaching for Leadership
The aim of the San Francisco Theological Seminary Coaching for Leadership program is to assist ministers currently serving congregations to strengthen their leadership skills, including areas such as conflict management, personnel recruitment and supervision, strategic planning, time management, organizational development and envisioning skills. This program is directed by Scott Sullender, Associate Professor of Pastoral Counseling. Also available through Scott’s office is congregational coaching and consulting.

The Program in Christian Spirituality
The SFTS Program in Christian Spirituality offers courses and programs for students, alumni, clergy and laypeople that emphasize an integrated, holistic spirituality where personal and corporate prayer, study, worship, and service are maintained in dynamic relationship. Its graduate Diploma Programs and Academic Concentrations seek to be ecumenical in scope, faithful to the Reformed tradition, and sensitive to today's cultural and religious context. Through Continuing Education and service to the SFTS community, the staff strives to nurture individuals and provide a resource to the community.

Facility Rental & Conference Services
The San Francisco Theological Seminary campus is beautiful beyond compare. Over 30 buildings and homes stand in the twenty-one acres of old-world woods and pastures around and atop Seminary Hill, overlooking Ross Valley to Mount Tamalpais, just 15 miles north of San Francisco. It is a lovely, convenient place to house guests, conduct weddings, receptions, concerts, large and small conferences, retreats, and other meetings. The Seminary is also an ideal location for memorial services and bar and bat mitzvahs.

Field Education
The Department Field Education at San Francisco Theological Seminary holds at its core this belief: “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” When potential M.Div students arrive at SFTS, it is the intention of these two offices to assist them in finding that place. From first and second year Exploration in Ministry Seminars, through yearlong supervised internships culminating with Senior Integrative Seminar, students experience a variety of invaluable first-hand, practical applications of theoretical learning.

Clinical Pastoral Education
The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program at San Francisco Theological Seminary is offered for pastors, religious professionals, theology students and qualified lay persons who seek further development of their pastoral skills. In this exciting type of graduate-level education, spiritual care providers will learn to integrate knowledge from theological, psychological and social science disciplines into the practice of pastoral ministry. Students also learn more about the responsibilities of religious and spiritual leadership.

Graduate Theological Union (GTU)
One of the most exciting and challenging opportunities available to SFTS students is the ecumenical educational environment of the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. The GTU is regarded as the model for a successful theological consortium in the United States, offering doctoral, masters, and education for denominational leadership within a unique interfaith context.

David Ng Resource Center
The David Ng Resource Center is located on the San Anselmo campus of San Francisco Theological Seminary. It works in partnership with the North Coast Resource Center in Fortuna, California, to serve the Redwoods Presbytery and the greater ecumenical communities of the Bay Area. It is the mission of these resource centers to assist the Seminary and local churches in their educational ministry, and to encourage the sharing of resources as a matter of good stewardship by providing access to educational resources and supplementary materials.

Sabbaticals & Retreats
Refresh your spirit with our Pastoral Renewal program, offering resources and guides for your time of sabbatical or retreat.  Experience the renewing power of a private guided retreat with a spiritual director, or enjoy your own personal time of sabbatical at SFTS.  Housing available.
