San Anselmo, CA – San Francisco Theological Seminary is pleased to welcome Walter Collins as the Vice President for Advancement. Walter’s recent experience is from the Pacific Union College in Angwin, CA, where he has served as the Vice President of Advancement, Alumni Relations and Asset Management for the past four years, working closely with Dr. Heather Knight, the first African American woman to serve as a president of a Seventh Day Adventist college or university. Walter brings more than 18 years of fundraising experience in a variety of positions. Prior to his service at Pacific Union College, he was executive director of the California Symphony Orchestra in Walnut Creek; president and CEO of United Way of the Wine Country in Santa Rosa; and marketing director and then executive director of the Redlands Symphony Orchestra in Southern California. In each of these positions, he has a solid record of notable achievements.
Walter holds a BA in Political Science and Theory with minors in music and astrophysics from UC Berkeley. As a person of faith, Walter is excited to work at SFTS and shares our passion for spirituality, social justice and innovation. As you might guess from his resume, he is also a musician with a deep love for classical music. Walter is bilingual, speaking Spanish and English. His father was born in Chile; his mother in Guatemala. He attended a Seventh Day Adventist high school in southern California where he was class valedictorian, football quarterback, and very active in musical activities. He and his wife, Amy, have three young children.
