About Us

San Francisco Theological Seminary is now part of the University of Redlands Graduate School of Theology. Multifaith and interdisciplinary, the GST prepares students for theological engagement, transformational impact, and active leadership in communities and public life.

As the only Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) seminary in the West, San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS) reinvents education for ministry through unparalleled innovation, rigorous scholarship, and a tradition of commitment to spirituality and social justice ministry in the Christian faith.

We are a welcoming multicultural community assembled from throughout the world. Our degrees in theology combine classroom learning with immersion in practical ministry, preparing students to bridge theological, cultural, and political divides. Any student who exhibits a commitment to theological inquiry and vocational curiosity is welcome. Here you will refine your unique gifts to cultivate spiritual advocacy in its many forms for your journey in our expansive, ever-changing world.

As a founding member of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU), we offer you open enrollment in a cohesive partnership of seminaries comprised of varying traditions. You will also have access to other premier higher education institutions throughout the Bay Area, including the University of California at Berkeley.

The stage for your learning experience is picturesque San Anselmo, California. San Anselmo lies just north of San Francisco, one of the most eclectic and exciting cities in the nation. It is situated in Marin County, which is abundant in rural charms, such as redwood forests, wine vineyards, houseboat communities and hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails…130 of which are at the seminary’s back door.
